shortwave is dead?

lately i got some small worldreceivers for an audiovisual installation in lisbon.
unfortunately not a single worldreceiver was able to catch a shortwave radio.
i was hoping for crazy radio programs from africa - but nope. nothing.
now by accident i found this article on hackaday about the diing shortwave radio world.
